BEAMINSTER TOWN COUNCIL

Councillor Mrs Sally Samuel

Councillor Mrs Sally Samuel

I have lived in Beaminster for 11 years and in that time have helped, in a voluntary capacity, with the Beaminster Community Swimming Pool, The Beaminster Learning Centre and the Weldmar Hospice Shop.  While working as a volunteer I have discovered a great deal about Beaminster and met many of the residents.
In particular, I enjoyed my volunteering with the Yarn Barton Learning Centre and was able, in a small way, to help raise money to keep it going.  I was very disappointed when it closed through lack of funds as I felt the town had lost an important facility.  A handful of volunteers met with the Council to discuss keeping the Yarn Barton Centre open as a Community Information Centre, Tourist Information Point and Internet drop-in facility.  The Council were very helpful and their help made it possible.

It was through this experience that I thought that I would like to serve on the Town Council and help other groups that were interested in improving facilities in Beaminster as well as taking an interest in, and influencing, decisions that affect the community. When the opportunity arose to be co-opted onto the town council I decided to apply.  I hope to make a difference and realise that there is a lot to learn about the workings of a Town council.
