BEAMINSTER TOWN COUNCIL

Councillor Mrs Rosemary Beeny

Councillor Mrs Rosemary Beeny

My fathers family (Brooks) had lived and worked in Beaminster since the 1800's. I am now retired, previously working in Opticians and Doctors surgeries as a receptionist and secretary, both in East Sussex and Dorset. I moved back here in 1995 to be near my father, who sadly now has passed away.

Whilst raising a family I was involved with the British Red Cross in Dorset. I lived then in Ferndown helping to run a Medical Loan Centre and then the same on moving to Battle and Eastbourne in East Sussex - it was there I was elected to represent the BRCS on the Community Health Council for a four year term. On moving to Hastings I was BRCS Centre Organiser and we worked with the community when the great Storm on 1987 devasted the town, damaging many houses. We opened our centre to the homeless and those in need of household goods and clothing, equipment and tarpaulins were sent from the BRCS London central warehouses.
