BEAMINSTER TOWN COUNCIL

Councillor Gilbert Berry

Councillor Gilbert Berry

I was first elected to the Council in 1999, shortly after moving to Beaminster from West Coker. I was Vice-Chairman from 2003 - 2007, and am currently Chairman of the Finance and GP Committee. I have more than 20 plus years experience as a local Councillor, earlier in Buckinghamshire, and in Somerset. I live in Tunnel Road with my wife Maureen.

I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and was a founder member of its Compensation Forum, which today, after nearly 30 years, is leading consultative group of independent experts in the field of employment reward and benefits.

Having taken early retirement in 1991, after working with a major brewer in a wide range of diverse managerial and strategic roles, I initially took on two major voluntary roles - with the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Princes Trust. As a CAB advisor for more than ten years, then as a Trustee of the South Somerset CAB, and now as a Trustee Board Member of the Bridport CAB, I have gained considerable experience about the needs of the many under represented people in our communities. Currently, I am the Treasurer of the Friends of South Somerset CAB, especially set up to generate funds to assit witht he work of the Bureau, and I'm also a member of the Friends of West Dorset CABs, which has a similar fund raising role in supporting the work of the Bridport Bureau.
